Downtown Charleston

Downtown Charleston is full of things to do, as evidenced by being named the “Best City in America” by Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, and Southern Living magazines! From fantastic restaurants and bars to eclectic shops to historic homes and museums, this lovely and historic town is just waiting to be explored.

 

Browse goods from local vendors at the historic Charleston City Market. Take a tour of the Aiken-Rhett House Museum, a historic 1800s home of the former governor. Enjoy savory southern fare in a Victorian locale at the award-winning Husk. Sip on handcrafted drinks at The Gin Joint. Walk down lively King Street and explore an array of restaurants, shops, art galleries, and other attractions.

 

These are just a few of your options in downtown Charleston; the best way to experience the city is just by walking through it.

“Walk in the steps of heroes” when you visit Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, located just up the road from our resort. This museum is home to the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, USS Laffey destroyer, and USS Clamagore submarine, as well as a Vietnam Experience Exhibit, the National Medal of Honor Museum, and various aircraft.

Shem Creek flows through the heart of Mount Pleasant, offering a variety of leisure activities like fishing, boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding.

 

It is well-known for its shady, live oak-lined paths, unique shops, and waterfront bars and restaurants.

 

Take a walking tour of the area to learn about area, including the importance of its shrimp industry.

At the South Carolina Aquarium, just across the Cooper River from our resort, connect with more than 5,000 amazing animals and learn how you can protect them. Come face-to-face with sick and injured sea turtles in rehabilitation in the Sea Turtle Care Center™, and follow their journeys from rescue to rehab to release.

 

Visit the two touch tanks for a hands-on experience with stingrays, sharks, horseshoe crabs, sea stars and urchins. Learn fascinating details about the natural world at daily dive shows and animal encounters. Discover the wonder of water, wildlife and wild places at the South Carolina Aquarium.

 

The aquarium is open daily from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, building closes at 5 p.m. You can even take the Charleston Water Taxi from our docks to the Charleston Maritime Center, which is right next to the aquarium.

Transportation to and from the hotel

 

Want to explore historic downtown Charleston for the day? Our resort offers two convenient ways for you to get there. Catch the Charleston Water Taxi from our marina for a relaxing trip across the harbor to Waterfront Park and Aquarium Wharf stops. You may even see a dolphin or two along the way! The water taxi is OPEN for the season and leaves from Dock A beginning at 9am – 7pm. The cost is $10.00 one way or $14.00 for an all-day pass. Children ages 3 and under are free.

 

Water Taxi is open from 9am-8pm, but last round trip leaves from Dock A at 7pm.

 

Option number two for getting downtown is our hotel shuttle which picks up and drops off in front of Key West Hats on North Market Street. The shuttle runs year-round seven days a week:  please check the shuttle schedule located at the Front Desk for times.

Games & Activities at the Hotel

No matter the season, you’ll never be at a loss for fun things to do when staying with us. Compete against family and friends in a game of bocce, life-size chess, cornhole or ladder golf. You can even show off your skills in a tournament.

Group Discount at The Estuary Spa

Find a Little Zen During Beach Yoga – Seasonal

 

Donation Based Yoga Classes are offered on the beach at Harborside Hotel on the following dates:

Thursdays at 6:30 pm

Sundays at 8:30 am

Our beach yoga class, YogaFlow, combines the sound of gentle waves, the scent of salt air, and the rays of the sun during this Harborside Beach Yoga Class.   Your mind will enjoy the harmony while your body gets fit.

Certified personal training is available by appointment, and the Recreation Team can arrange special yoga classes for small groups.

Mini Mariners Camp at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina

 

Mini Mariners Camp

Relax. Send the little ones off while you spend some well-deserved time to yourself. Our Mini Mariners Camp is offered seasonally and embraces children from the ages of 5 to 10 with a variety of lively and educational indoor and outdoor activities.

 

Games, team sports, arts and crafts, crabbing, water slides, and field trips to local museums, beaches, and the police department are everyday pastimes we offer to keep your child amused throughout your stay. Additional fees apply. There is a summer camp with activities each week and on Tuesday night a movie night!

Pools with a View

 

No vacation is complete without a day, or two, spent relaxing poolside. Our resort has multiple pools for you to choose from, each with its own unique atmosphere and unmatched views of the Charleston Harbor just beyond its edge.

 

Those looking for fun and group games or activities should plan to play at our 30,000-square-foot tropical deck for year-round comfort as well as a bocce court, life-size chess board, private poolside cabanas, fire pits, and access to our beachfront. Top off your experience here with a drink from Charleston’s only waterfront Tiki Bar.

 

If relaxation is what you seek, our year round heated cabana pool and its accompanying whirlpool is the ideal choice. Harborside also has its own seasonal outdoor pool overlooking the pier and private beachfront.
