Autoflame Mk8 MM Compared to PLC Boiler Control

The Mk8 MM Controller compares extremely favourably across a wide variety of variables to traditional PLC boiler management systems.

SecurityFundamental system logic can not be compromised by end user. Software is designed to ensure safe operation. With correct access code the end user can modify system logic, which can create unsafe boiler conditions.
IntegrationVirtually all boiler operations can be controlled from a single screen. Servos, probes, valves and other equipment are manufactured by Autoflame to ensure compatibility. 40 years of experience and a fully dedicated R&D team ensures carefully thought out integration. PLC may be configured using proprietary or third party servos, probes and valves. The integration of these components with the PLC is only as good as the technicians configuring it.

Flame safeguard functionality is an integral function of the Autoflame system. Flame safeguard is typically a third-party component that requires careful configuration to operate in concert with the PLC.
SimplicityUsers can quickly access advanced reports and controls through a single, consistent 12.1” capacitive touchscreen interface. PLC configuration and operation is customised. As such, principles for simplifying Graphic User Interface may not be followed.
Multi-languageNative onscreen support in Chinese, Spanish, German & other languages. Most PLC’s only support English.
UpgradeableAdvanced functions are mostly standard, and those that are not can be quickly enabled via software access code. Expanded functionality may be available with additional programming, hardware and wiring.
QualityAll controls are designed and manufactured onsite in UK headquarters, ensuring complete quality control. Touchscreen incorporates a chemically toughened anti-scratch and UV resistant glass, packaged within a steel powder-coated enclosure, providing a NEMA4/IP65 enclosure. System is rigorously tested to UL, CE, and AGA standards, and in compliance with the NFPA 85 safety standards. PLC is typically a PC that is not manufactured for boiler room environments and does not meet UL and CE testing.
CostWhen factoring in complete functionality, integrated touchscreen, and total cost of ownership over product lifetime, Autoflame is typically the lowest cost, highest quality solution. Because of the highly customised nature of each PLC system, they tend to be much more expensive than an off-the-shelf Mk8 MM. When adding the cost of a touchscreen to match the Autoflame spec, the PLC becomes an even worse value.
